Triple Play and IPTV/VOD

Service Providers, under considerable competitive pressure from Cable MSOs,  have raced to upgrade their residential broadband offerings to include video as an important addition to their data and voice services -- the "triple play." This service portfolio is based on IP technology, and in many cases also includes IPTV and IP-based Video-on-Demand (VOD) offerings. With the Increased proliferation of deep fiber buildouts, the triple play and telco video services are transitioning towards more mature offerings.

Triple play and telco video offerings have forced a major shift in thinking from the days when high-speed Internet access drove broadband deployments. Today, with data, voice and video, the Quality of Service (QoS) they experience will define which customers churn and which stay loyal to their service providers. This is where Hammerhead's HSX 6000 can make a performance difference in a triple play and telco video driven infrastructure.

The HSX 6000 can provide the necessary functions that will ensure a successful implementation to provide triple play services. The platform provides key capabilities that are necessary to ensure that a comprehensive set of services can be offered from one network:

Hierarchical QoS – With a mix of different service types based on date, voice, and video, it is critical that the network provide service guarantees and the metrics to validate performance through the network. The HSX 6000 has implemented a state of the art QoS technology that offers per flow policing and traffic shaping as well as an advanced queuing algorithm that supports the demanding service level performance required for the transport and delivery of triple play services.

High Density Gigabit Ethernet Aggregation – The HSX 6000 is Triple Play ready to be deployed as an aggregation box supporting high speed Gigabit Ethernet aggregation. The Service Provider can use the HSX 6000 for a high-density GbE fan-in and aggregate these flows to a high speed uplink.

Application Awareness – The HSX 6000 is capable of intelligently determining different application requirements, mapping this to appropriate QoS levels, and offering interfaces to video and policy servers that are used to apply subscriber management functions.

The HSX 6000 has the key features and economics to support emerging Triple Play services for new revenue generation.
