Service Interworking Gateway

Service Providers in the midst of evolving to all IP networks are currently running disparate networks in order to continue to support their existing customers on legacy ATM-based equipment.  As customers slowly migrate from the legacy ATM network to the growing MPLS core, Service Providers have been seeking a service interworking solution that allows for a more seamless migration without impacting service performance or network availability.

The HSX 6000 performs a Service Interworking Gateway function between ATM PNNI-based networks and MPLS-based networks. The HSX 6000 can efficiently interwork traffic from these disparate ATM and MPLS networks with its unique dual ATM/MPLS control plane, which allows for a clean, seamless, and standards-based service interworking solution on a single platform, unlike proprietary approaches and multi-box solutions proposed by other vendors.

The HSX 6000 uses draft Swallow to convert traffic from standards-based ATM PNNI legacy networks to MPLS cores. This unique HSX 6000 mechanism essentially interworks ATM SPVCs with MPLS Pseudowires, and provides scalability to interwork thousands of circuits while maintaining QoS parameters.
